W12  Implementing the Blueprint for Modernizing Environmental Reviews and the ADVANCE Act

Established in 2020, the Environmental Center of Expertise (ECOE) has been effective in advancing the quality, consistency, timeliness, and transparency of the NRC’s environmental reviews in addition to fostering a positive organizational culture among environmental review staff members. Since its inception, the ECOE has experienced unprecedented change in the world of environmental review driven by both significant internal and external factors.

Through a series of innovations and change, the NRC staff is implementing a blueprint for transformation of the environmental review program, delivering on current initiatives and proactively launching efforts to further streamline environmental reviews and enhance the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of the program without negatively impacting affected and interested parties, confidence or organizational culture.

This session will discuss the extensive proactive and reactive ECOE actions and initiatives, consistent with the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Energy (ADVANCE) Act, that will further significant effectiveness and efficiency gains in the NRC’s environmental review program.
