TH28  How Digital Technology Is Being Used Today and its Impact

Digital Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) systems improve plant reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve safety.  Major digital modifications to I&C systems are also vital to address obsolescence and to ensure the long-term sustainability of aging reactor plants.

This year’s session will provide external stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss the uses, benefits, and implications of digital technology in I&C systems.  Instead of formal presentations, panelists will engage in a roundtable discussion to explore the benefits and solutions in the implementation of digital technology in nuclear applications.

The panelists will provide perspectives on several key questions, including these: What are the essential safety and reliability benefits of using digital technology? What are industry’s plans for the widespread implementation of digital I&C? What have international experiences in digital I&C taught us? What are the remaining industry and regulatory challenges? To enhance the dialogue, panelists will also welcome written questions from the audience.
