TH31  Probabilistic Risk Assessment Consensus Standards: Principles, Objectives, and Applications

A panel of experts from the NRC, nuclear industry, andNon-governmental Organizations (NGO) will discuss the current status,principles, objectives, and applications of the American Society of MechanicalEngineers (ASME)/American Nuclear Society (ANS) PRA consensus standard and theNRC Regulatory Guide 1.200, “An Approach for Determining the TechnicalAdequacy of Probabilistic Risk Assessment Results for Risk-InformedActivities,” which endorses the ASME/ANS PRA standard. The U.S. NRC utilizesthe consensus standard process to identify minimum regulatory requirements forPRA Approaches.  The new version of the PRA standard is currently beingdeveloped and this version is expected to be a major revision that builds uponthe experience gained in the last decade of using PRA.
