Sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
This exhibit will provide stakeholders with insight into the NRC’s monitoring of and participation in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Light Water Reactor Sustainability Program’s Plant Modernization Pathway. It will focus on Automating Data Collection and Analysis (a licensee data portal) but also other research areas under that pathway. The NRC, as a modern, risk-informed, and independent regulator, is monitoring this research to ensure that our perspectives can be integrated if necessary and that we are ready should implementation require an adjustment to our regulatory process (within the bounds of current regulations). Attendees will gain an understanding of the Light Water Reactor Sustainability Plant Modernization Pathway, Idaho National Laboratory’s various research areas under the Pathway, and the NRC’s specific work in these areas and role as an independent regulator. They will have an idea of the timeline for research and potential industry implementation of these innovations and know how the NRC is monitoring these efforts and ensuring that the Pathway is ready to be implemented.
