Data Validation and Reconciliation – Applying Digital Twins to Increase Core Thermal Power

Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation

Data Validation and Reconciliation (DVR) allows plants to perform a measurement uncertainty recapture power uprate without the need for new plant equipment. DVR takes advantage of multiple existing independent power plant steam cycle parameter measurements and their corresponding uncertainties to generate the new estimate of the core thermal power with a reduced uncertainty. This presentation will provide a brief overview of DVR, of the risk evaluation performed by the NRC staff in its review and approval of EPRI’s topical report “Use of Data Validation and Reconciliation Methods for Measurement Uncertainty Recapture” and provide details on what actions a plant would have to take to implement such a process.
