Virtual Tour of the NRC Operations Center
Join us for a virtual tour of the NRC Operations Center, the hub of the NRC’s emergency response program.
Our highly trained technical staff and a group of experts who stand watch 24/7 monitor incidents that
range from natural disasters, such as hurricanes, to coordinating with State, local, Tribal, and other
Federal organizations in response to radiological incidents, such as the 2011 accident at the Fukushima
Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan. Our 24/7 watchstanders receive approximately 20,000 telephone
calls a year from NRC licensees; other Federal, State, and local organizations; media outlets; and members
of the public. As the emergency response program continues to transform, the NRC will remain steadfast in
our mission to protect public health and safety.
