Annemiek van Bolhuis

Annemiek van Bolhuis assumed office as Chair of the Board of the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS) of the Netherlands in April 2020.

Ms. Van Bolhuis has over 30 years of experience in national and international public service and occupied several top level positions in the public sector. Prior to working at the ANVS, Ms. Van Bolhuis was Director Public Health and Health Services at the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

Earlier in her career, Ms. Van Bolhuis was Director of International Affairs and Director of Nutrition, Health Protection and Prevention and Deputy Director General of Public Health and Sport, both at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Ms. Van Bolhuis gained extensive international experience through her work at for the Ministry and for the United nations Office for Drug and Crime (UNODC) at the Caribbean Office, and as a strategic advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. Through her international experience, she has developed a gift for languages, of which she speaks seven.

Ms. Van Bolhuis was originally trained as a nurse. Subsequently she earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science and a Honors degree (master) in Public Administration from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Later in her career she obtained a master degree in international management and an executive master’s degree in business administration. In addition to her position at the ANVS, Ms. Van Bolhuis is a Member of the Scientific Committee of Santé Publique France (SPF). In 2023 Ms. Van Bolhuis was appointed co-chair of the Impact Group on Gender Equality in Nuclear Regulatory Agencies (IGC), in shared leadership with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
