Ed Harvey

Ed Harvey is a Senior Health Physicist in the NRC's Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards and currently serves as the technical lead for the NRC's fusion program, including vision & strategy, rulemaking, policy matters, and ADVANCE Act fusion activities. Previously, Mr. Harvey served as the Director of Radiation Health for the US Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, where he oversaw radiation safety programs implemented to protect nearly 50,000 civilians and sailors working at nuclear-capable shipyards, laboratories, and aboard nuclear-powered warships. Mr. Harvey began his professional career with the NRC in 2014 as a materials health physics inspector, where he performed safety and security inspections of licensees authorized by the NRC to use byproduct material for medical, industrial, research, and academic applications. In 2020, Mr. Harvey transitioned to a health physicist position with the NRC's Office of Research, where he managed the maintenance and development of several dose assessment computer codes developed and maintained under the NRC’s Radiation Protection Computer Code Analysis and Maintenance Program. Mr. Harvey holds both a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan. Go Blue!
