Ellen Cerreta

Ellen Cerreta is the Associate Laboratory Director for Physical Sciences (ALDPS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where she oversees materials science, manufacturing, experimental physics, and accelerator science capabilities foundational to the nation’s security and energy security missions. An internationally recognized materials scientist, her research links microstructure to dynamic material behavior, with impacts across shock physics, explosives science, and performance-critical materials. Prior to becoming ALDPS, she led the Materials Science and Technology Division and held senior leadership roles advancing manufacturing science, energetic materials, additive processes, isotope production, and prototype fabrication, with a strong emphasis on data-informed design and accelerated technology maturation. Cerreta earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia. She is a Fellow of ASM International and served as the 2021 President of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS).
