Joseph Messina

Joseph Messina is a reactor systems engineer in the Nuclear Methods and Fuel Analysis Branch within the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation at the NRC.  He specializes in fuel thermal-mechanical performance and plays a key role in preparedness efforts and licensing reviews for increased enrichment, high burnup, and accident tolerant fuel.  As technical lead for fuel fragmentation, relocation, and dispersal in the Increased Enrichment Rulemaking, Mr. Messina is helping to enhance the NRC’s regulatory framework to better support licensing of high burnup and advanced fuels.

Mr. Messina holds a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, both in nuclear engineering.
