Andrew Mayall

Andy has worked at the Environment Agency for 27 years in a wide range of regulatory and policy roles. His current role includes leading regulatory strategy and policy for nuclear and radioactive substances regulation including advanced nuclear/fusion, new reactor build, operational sites, decommissioning, waste management, radiological protection, emergency preparedness and response, and sustainability in the nuclear sector. Andy has previously been New and Operational Sites Manager, Legacy and Wastes Manager, nuclear regulator and leader of the Agency’s Sellafield team. He was the Environment Agency representative on the Office for Nuclear Regulation’s Fukushima lessons report team in 2011 and spent several years on secondment to the new reactor build sector and to the UK Government’s Office for Nuclear Development where he worked on 3rd party liability for nuclear energy, EU BSSD 2013 and the early stages of the advanced nuclear technology programme. Prior to joining the Environment Agency, Andy worked at the UK’s National Radiological Protection Board. He was involved in a wide range of radiological protection and assessment work there including leading the design and development of PC-CREAM radiological assessment tool. Andy is a member of ICRP’s Committee 4 on the application of the radiological protection system and a former vice-chair of the NEA’s Committee on Radiological Protection and Public Health.
