Martin O'Neill
Martin O’Neill is Associate General Counsel at the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the trade association for the commercial nuclear technologies industry. In this role, he advises NEI and assists NEI members on legal, regulatory, legislative, and policy issues affecting the nuclear energy industry, with a focus on advanced reactor licensing, reactor license renewal, the nuclear fuel cycle, and environmental matters. Martin has over 24 years of experience as a nuclear regulatory attorney, including two years with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as an Honor Law Graduate Program attorney. Before joining NEI in February 2020, Martin was Of Counsel in the Energy Practice Group at Morgan Lewis, where he frequently represented clients in licensing proceedings and administrative litigation before the NRC.
Martin holds a BA in Geology from Colgate University, where he graduated with magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. He holds a JD from the University of Texas School of Law, where he focused his studies on environmental and administrative law. Martin also completed extensive graduate coursework in hydrogeology and geochemistry at UT Austin and worked briefly as a hydrogeologist in Austin prior to attending law school.
