Laurel Bauer

Ms. Bauer currently serves as the Branch Chief for the Structural, Geotechnical, and Seismic Engineering Branch in the NRC’s Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES), Division of Engineering. Prior to her current role, Ms. Bauer served as a Geologist in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) and as the lead for the NRC’s Process for the Ongoing Assessment of Natural Hazards Information (POANHI). She has held a variety of technical and managerial positions since joining the NRC in 2007. She has served as a technical reviewer for new and operating reactor licensing projects; a research geologist on rotation in RES; a technical assistant for new reactor licensing; and an acting and temporary branch chief multiple times in both the Office of New Reactors and in NRR. Prior to joining the NRC, Ms. Bauer worked as a contract geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey and as a contract environmental analyst for the Navy’s environmental training program. Ms. Bauer has an M.S. in Earth Sciences, a B.S. in Geology, and a B.A. in Anthropology.
