Ted Smith

Mr. Smith is currently the Branch Chief for the Environmental Technical Review Branch 2 at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where he overseas scientific and technical reviews of environmental reports for NRC licensing actions.  He has recently previously served as Acting Deputy Director for the Division of Rulemaking, Environmental and Financial Support, and Branch Chief for the Environmental Licensing Renewal Branch in the NRC Environmental Center of Expertise.

Prior to 2020, Mr. Smith was a project manager for many years in the Reactor Decommissioning Branch of the Division of Decommissioning, Uranium Recovery and Waste Programs.He also previously served as acting branch chief in the Source Management and Protection Branch in the Division of Material Safety, State, and Tribal Programs, in 2018; as well as the Acting Branch Chief for the Materials Decommissioning Branch (2016, 2017), and Acting Branch Chief for the Reactor Decommissioning Branch (2009).

Prior to working at NRC, Mr. Smith worked for SAIC and BDM supporting Department of Energy’s (DOE) Environmental Management.  Mr. Smith supported EM activities at the Hanford and Savannah River Sites, development of the Baseline Environmental Management Report and DOE’s foreign research reactor fuel spent fuel return program.

Prior to working with DOE’s Environmental Management Office, Mr. Smith served at the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program Headquarters.  Mr. Smith also served in the Naval Reserve, working primarily at the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division, from 1996 to 2004; as a Department Head, Branch Chief, and Commanding Officer.
