W13 Navigating the Transformation of Regional Oversight
The purpose of this session is to align stakeholders on current topics involving the NRC's operating reactor inspection and oversight programs. Topics will include areas of common interest to internal and external stakeholders from the four regional offices. The session will include allotted time for each of the four regional participants to present remarks that contain their perspectives on the current state of the NRC operating reactor oversight programs. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions directed towards the panel.
Learning objectives will include an increased awareness of the current technical and regulatory challenges facing the regions. The discussion will generate a more thorough understanding of how the regions are leveraging calls for change (e.g., the ADVANCE Act and Executive Order 14300) to address these challenges. This effort focuses on improving efficiency through technology and program enhancements, including regional reorganization and Reactor Oversight Process rebaselining.
Focus areas include but are not limited to (1) perspectives on regional implementation of current and upcoming changes to the NRC regulatory framework, (2) regional efforts to continue risk informing oversight and inspection, (3) operating reactor inspection efficiency gains, and (4) staff retention and recruitment.
