Joosuk Lee
Dr. Joosuk Lee is a principal researcher at the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) with nearly 20 years of expertise in nuclear fuel system safety reviews. He earned his Ph.D. in Nuclear and Quantum Engineering from KAIST in 2004. At KINS, he has specialized in licensing, safety reviews, and inspections of PWR, CANDU, and research reactor fuel system designs.
Dr. Lee has led regulatory safety research projects as a project manager, contributing to the development of fuel safety criteria, best-estimate audit methodologies, and advanced computational tools designed for evaluating fuel safety during steady-state and postulated transients. He has published over 100 scientific papers in these fields. He also served as the leader of a resident inspection team.
Currently, Dr. Lee is actively engaged in the development of integrated system thermal-hydraulic and thermo-mechanical fuel codes. These tools are designed to analyze postulated accidents, such as LOCAs, with a specific focus on FFRD phenomena and their associated safety implications His work also includes development of advancing audit methodologies for innovative fuel technologies, including ATF, LEU+, and high-burnup fuels.
