Vesselina Ranguelova
Ms Vesselina Ranguelova is Deputy Head of Division of Nuclear Safety Technology and Regulation at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) since October 2021. Ms Ranguelova is leading the NEA support for the NEA Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) responsible for the safety research implemented under the auspices of NEA. She is the Scientific Secretary for the NEA Expert Group on Small Modular Reactors and represents NEA in the SMR Regulators' Forum.
Prior to joining the OECD she was the Head of the IAEA Safety Assessment Section that is responsible for the preparation of IAEA safety standards on NPP design safety and safety assessment. So far, she is also the only woman to have led several of the around 200 IAEA operational safety review team (OSART) missions conducted at NPPs all over the world. Prior to her assignment to the IAEA she was working for European Commission and contributed to development of EURATOM research programme on NPP safety, EU directive on Nuclear Safety and Post-Fukushima stress tests for EU NPPs. Altogether, Ms Ranguelova has more than 40 years of experience in nuclear safety assessment. Ms Ranguelova, a Bulgarian national, has a Master's of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Moscow Power Engineering University, Russia and also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Probabilistic Safety Assessment from Manchester Universality, the UK.
