Hipolito Gonzalez
Hipo Gonzalez serves as the Acting Deputy in the Division of Operating Reactor Licensing (DORL), Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR). Mr. Gonzalez joined the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in 2001 as part of the Nuclear Safety Intern Program, beginning his career as a Reactor Inspector in the Region III Office. Since then, he has held a variety of positions, including Materials Engineer in the Office of Research and the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), and Technical Assistant (TA) for the Division of High-Level Waste and for NMSS. After graduating from the NRC’s 2012 Leadership Potential Program, Mr. Gonzalez served in several leadership roles, including Chief of the Yucca Mountain Volume 3 Branch and the Materials Safety and Tribal Liaison Branch in NMSS, as well as Chief of the Vessels and Internals Branch and Licensing Projects Branch 1 in NRR. He has also gained broad experience in other positions within the NRC, including serving as Executive TA in the Office of the Executive Director for Operations and as Technical Assistant for Materials to former NRC Chair Christopher T. Hanson in 2021. Recently, Mr. Gonzalez served as the NRR lead Branch Chief spearheading the ADVANCE Act Section 505 licensing efficiency efforts. Mr. Gonzalez earned an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico. He is also a graduate of the NRC’s Leadership Potential Program.
