Supporting International Coordination on Nuclear Technologies and Licensing Activities, NRC/NEA Workshop on Seismic Input Motion Development for Analysis and Design of Nuclear Installations

Sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research

The objectives of the workshop are: (1) to share the current state of practice in SIMD among NEA member states, (2) to raise awareness of the necessity for PSD checks, (3) to achieve an integrated consideration of RS matching and PSD checks, and (4) to explore future activities to completement RS with PSD or other good practices for seismic hazard analysis, seismic load specification, seismic analysis and design, and seismic risk assessment. This workshop also aims to serve as an avenue for knowledge transfer to the next generation of engineers who are expected to use newer analysis and computational tools for advanced reactor designs.

This digital exhibit will provide details of the workshop, which the WGIAGE Seismic Subgroup has decided to hold at the NRC Headquarters in May 2026. Workshop planning is well underway, and the representatives of the NEA Member States will be collaborating by the Subgroup’s March 2025 meeting to expand and enrich the topics developed for the workshop. SIMD-related digital tools which are being developed by the staff also will be displayed at the exhibit. The workshop also will be open to non-NEA members, and interested RIC2025 participants will be able to obtain registration information at the exhibit.
